John F. Zaccaro II

Ladies, I would like you to meet my one and only Grandpa Z ;)!

He is the adorable, Italian man with the organge hat ;). The man beside him is his best friend Joe, and they have been friends for years!!!! For some reason, my grandpa has been on my heart lately, so I thought I would do a little post about him. Besides my father and Web, he is the SWEETEST man alive. I think in all of my twenty-six years, I have seen him mad once. My parents and I went with my grandparents to visit the 13 Colonies and Grandpa was tired of paying the tolls...LOL!

I have been incredibly blessed to grow up near both sets of grandparents. This is something I will never take for granted. Granny and Grandpa Z happen to be my mother's parents and they are affectionately known as Barb & Jack to most. But to me they have been so much more. All of my grandparents have! They have been my biggest fans from day one ;). I could go on and on about the little things that I love about each one of them, but I have to be honest and say that Grandpa Z and I are like two peas in a pod. We have always been each other's favorites ;)!

When I think about my grandpa so many things come to mind...
- the smell of chapstick
- old time coin carriers
- golf
- Knights of Columbus
- trips...EVERYWHERE! My mother and I spent two weeks touring Italy with my grandparents in 2000. We are all Catholic so the time we spent in the Vatican holds a special place in my heart!
- big silver bowls for his cereal
- playing cards and yahtzee
- going to Crossville every summer for a week
- BIG, LOUD, FAMILY GATHERINGS
- LOTS OF LOVE...LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE!

I truly could tell you so many stories, but I just wanted you to meet the man who has always called me Meggie and who holds a very special place in my heart!

I love you Grandpa!

That was a sweet story. I only had one Grandpa growing up because my Mom's dad died when she was 14.
I have to say that I felt that way about my Mommaw like you do your Grandpa.
She passes away almost 3 years ago.
But you are right, gotta love all the family memories. There is nothing like it.

What sweet memories...isn't it funny how the smallest things create the largest spaces in our hearts?

Grandparents are wonderful...I'm so glad that you are as close to yours as I am to mine.
