I know I have said this more than once, but my job has taught me so many things over the last two years! I have always been a "giver," but working where I do provides me opportunities to give on a daily basis. Some days I leave work with a good sense of self b/c I know we are making a difference, and some days I leave completely humbled. Yesterday was one of those days...
About a month or so ago, we had our 77th Home Dedication in Rutherford County ;). This particular home was called The House of Faith b/c several churches came together to fund and build it. To watch so many churches with such different backgrounds come together was extremely special to me! The family who received the home is a single mom and her three beautiful children. For some reason, the bond I formed with them went a little deeper than I was used to. She just has a special place in my heart and I in her's.
Sometimes at dedications the families receive gifts ;). This can include donated furniture, food to stock a pantry, gift cards to various places, and/or just a donation to do a little shopping. Well, N and her family received some donations to go shopping to get items for their new house. My dear friend K and I happily volunteered to meet N and the kids at 5:00 for dinner and a night of shopping ;)!
We started at O'Charley's to make sure we had plenty of "fuel" to keep us going while we shopped. Our next stop was at Linens N Things...WOW! As we walked through the store, the kids had so much fun picking out comforters, curtains, towels, shower curtains, dishes etc. It truly was like Christmas in July for them! N and I were looking at curtains and she said, "Megan, I want to thank you! I have never been able to do anything like this for my children or myself before!"
REALLY?!?! Here I am staying up all hours of the night with Web talking about how we are going to decorate our new home and sweet N is just happy to have hangers and canisters for her flour and sugar. Ladies, we just don't know how good we have it!
After we left Linens N Things we headed to Target and closed that place down! We left with three buggies full to.the.brim! I did not get home until after 10:00 pm, but it was worth every moment.
This is what it means to "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR!"

This is quite a post to come from the most humble (humblest?) person I know.
How lucky those ladies were to have you shop and spend time with them.
Megan,
You are just living out the scriptures that say, "love your neighbor as yourself" by your unselfish and loving ways!
Thanks for posting such a wonderful trip with N and her children! You are a lady after God's own heart!
What an incredible way to minister to that family and shine light on them! This was such a neat post. I think it was so sweet to go shopping with them.
